About Us

JumpStart International began in 2003 in Iraq, with a vision to empower Iraqis through projects rebuilding their country. Today, JumpStart advances economic and civil society development through technology. JumpStart's model provides seed capital to identify and develop local staff and management, that over a three to five year period, will fully own and operate a self-sustaining business going forward. The JumpStart mission to bring our experience in innovative technologies such as GPS street-mapping to assist in meeting critical local needs while also creating highly-skilled local employment.

This is the approach we've developed with Tbilisi-based JumpStart Georgia, which launched in 2009 by creating the first complete, open set of map data for the Republic of Georgia. Today JumpStart Georgia advocates for open data in government, businesses and civil society; builds data-driven tools to inform and engage Georgians about issues of social importance; and collaborates with organizations to strengthen their capacities to use data to inform and engage the public.

As data journalist and government transparency pioneers in the South Caucasus, JumpStart Georgia helps people and organizations learn how to use code, data and design to make complex issues easy to grasp. It is these same software tools and lessons learned in Georgia that we seek to share more broadly to governments, business and civil society in the developing world.
